The Artist's Details..
Thank you for the opportunity to submit my work for consideration in your
Sign of the Month!!!
The sign is fabricated with SignFoam II with no mechanical fasteners.
All appliques are affixed with pure clear silicone. The back is 3/4 SignFoam
and the edges are 1" x 3/4" routed SignFoam affixed with West Epoxy.
All gilding was done prior to assembly.
The gold is 23.5k German and the silver is Paladium(not silver or aluminum)
from Sepp Leaf in New York.
The background is black smaltz and the background of the logo is
cobalt blue smaltz from Esoteric Sign Supplies.
The serpent and grain heads are carved 1.5" SignFoam.
The circle and triangle were made in two separate pieces and grooved on a
stationary router table, then cut to fit into one another.
Everything was laid to dry fit, traced and the background colors applied.
The next day the paint was mixed with 50-50 Smith's Cream (again from Esoteric)
and thinned with mineral spirits and applied approx. 1/8" thick.
All elements were set in place with silicone and temporarily screwed from the back for stability.
The smaltz were sprinkled heavily and the sign was tapped periodically
to level the smaltz and allowed to dry overnight.
I vacuumed the blue smaltz out because there was very little to save
and the black smaltz was dumped on a clean floor so it could be saved for reuse.
Upon thorough drying, the screws were removed and all gilded surfaces
were coated with "Frog Juice".
The sign assembly was installed using clear silicone.
