Great work Nettie!
Details and comments by the artist...
I am so thrilled to be chosen for Sign of the Month Mark!
It's given me goosebumps!
Thanks so much for the recognition.
I feel that this sign has surely earned us a good pat on the back. if not
merely for our endurance in getting it finished. It was a learning
experience that didn't come without afew trials and tribulations. A year ago
I designed this logo for a customer of mine, along with a very eyecatching
business card. He returned to me later with the question, "what about a
sign, got any ideas?" My head started reeling, and I immediately exploded
on him with some seeds of thought.. After a lot of brainstorming with Craig
about what I envisioned here, we went into action. These pictures are the
result of what bloomed from those seeds.
This project literally grew from the first cut of wood.
The sign is 4'x 6' in size. The backboard and the cut-outs are made from
MDO. All edges were rounded, filled and sanded smooth. The letters are 14"
and are made from signfoam. Each dimension is offset with spacers. The
elevator cable rods are actually brass rods we found from a salvage yard,
and painted black. As an added touch I had the rods extend past the
backboard up top. All the sign elements were given a very glossy automotive
clear coat finish. The sign is installed onto a brick wall by way of a cleat method.
Many elements of this sign came about in the fabrication process. I must
thank Craig for putting up with all my additions as this thing progressed.
The result is something we are both very proud of, and we walk away from
this one with more than a few lessons learned.
Thank you so much for your appreciation of our efforts here.
