Susan Fair, Lead Vocals, Bass Guitar and Percussion Music has been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember, as natural as breathing. At the tender age of 4 , I performed my first solo in my school's music program. It was a bluesy song that starts out "A song of love is a sad song, hi lily hi lily hi lo." With those words, my love of the blues had its start. . . Born in the south into a musical family, I learned about the classics on piano from my mother and rock and roll from Mark Stein, my slide-playing brother. His love of Duane Allman and Eric Clapton were big influences during our high school days growing up in Virginia. I spent many hours listening to Mark's garage band grind out blues and rock and roll rhythms. Attending college in Athens, Georgia, I discovered some major musical influences. Bonnie Raitt, Karla Bonoff, Linda Rondstadt, Emmy Lou Harris and Ricki Lee Jones become my new heroes. A transfer to Auburn, Alabama led to new experiences performing on open mike night at the local clubs. After college, I joined my brother in several rock and roll endeavors. One night, we met an amazing songwriter when we went to a jam session at a friend's house. I remember saying on the way home, "There's something about that Mark Fair." Before you knew it, we were singing beautiful harmony music together. We formed a group with the two favorite Marks and an amazing artist friend, Steve Garst, in a group called Crossover. We played the local clubs in Montgomery and the Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores. Mark Fair and I were married in 1983 and blessed in 1991with a beautiful baby girl. In 1999, I finally got to know my favorite piano player, Danny Raines. It is through his arrangements that we have the inspiration to do that thing we do called Fish On Wheels. And now that we're all grown up, we still have that love affair with the blues . . .
